New MTD law finally passed | MTD-Austria, umbrella organization of high-level medical technical services in Austria, July 4th, 2024

Affected professional groups are pushing for further reforms in the next legislative period

After years of effort, hundreds of conversations and dozens of suggestions for this reform, we were able to achieve important changes to the MTD law for our professionals and patients. However, suggestions for optimal care were not taken into account and, in our opinion, there is a need for action here. We will continue to work intensively to create an attractive working environment for our professional groups in order to continue to provide our patients with the best possible care in the future

Gabriele Jaksch, President of the umbrella organization MTD-Austria

Vienna (OTS) The new MTD law was passed in the National Council today. The umbrella organization MTD-Austria and the professional associations welcome the new law, which includes some positive changes. However, the associations agree that this law is only a necessary first step on the way to sustainable improvements in healthcare for members of the MTD professional groups as well as their patients and clients. Demands on essential topics remain open and require further processing.

For years, MTD-Austria has been working intensively with professional associations and all relevant stakeholders to further develop and improve the MTD law. The focus of all efforts was and is on maintaining patient safety and high-quality health care for the population, as well as creating legal certainty for all MTD professionals. It will therefore be the task of the next federal government to continue working on this law in order to permanently strengthen the health system in Austria.

Great interest in MTD issues

The MTD law already sparked great interest during the assessment phase, illustrated by the more than 460 statements and thousands of expressions of support. However, important adjustments such as specializations and the associated expansion of authority and competence to make more efficient use of existing resources as well as making professions more attractive by setting up publicly financed master’s degree programs remain open to date. There is therefore still room for improvement in some aspects of the law in order to ensure secure, targeted and future-oriented healthcare.

After years of effort, hundreds of conversations and dozens of suggestions for this reform, we were able to achieve important changes to the MTD law for our professionals and patients. However, suggestions for optimal care were not taken into account and, in our opinion, there is a need for action here. We will continue to work intensively to create an attractive working environment for our professional groups in order to continue to provide our patients with the best possible care in the future“, so Gabriele JakschPresident of the umbrella organization MTD-Austria.
