Tutoring courses during the holidays – AK consumer protection advises: pay attention to price and performance!

Linz (OTS) With intensive courses during the holidays, students prepare for a re-examination or a good start to the new school year. A current price survey by the AK consumer advocates shows: With price differences of 140 percent in small groups and 211 percent in individual lessons, the comparison is worth it. They advise you to stay away from free online tutoring. What were supposed to be bargains turn into expensive subscription traps.

The basis for the comparison was the price for a 3-week holiday course to prepare for the re-examination. Since a lesson lasts 45, 50 or 60 minutes depending on the provider, all prices have been converted to 60 minutes.

  • The price per hour for individual lessons is between 18 and 56 euros.
  • Lessons in small groups cost between 12.44 and 29.88 euros per hour.
  • Only one provider now charges a registration fee of 42 euros.
  • Compared to 2023, prices have increased by an average of two percent in small groups and by three percent in individual lessons.

Tips for choosing a tutoring institute

  • Ask friends or acquaintances about their experiences with tutors.
  • For group lessons, inquire about the number and age of the students. The fewer participants and the more homogeneous the group, the more intensive the support and the greater the learning success.
  • Inquire early about early bird prices and/or discounts.
  • At some tutoring institutes, the summer course is cheaper if you continue to receive regular tutoring in the fall.

Be careful with free offers on the Internet
There are learning offers on the Internet that entice you with free units, but turn out to be paid subscriptions. Numerous parents have already turned to AK Consumer Protection for support.
