Vienna (OTS) Rebekka Salzer presents the ORF parliamentary magazine “Hohes Haus” on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at 12 p.m. on ORF 2 and on ORF ON with the following topics:

thick air

The mood between the government parties is in the basement after the Green Environment Minister approved the EU renaturation regulation against the express wishes of the ÖVP. The Chancellor’s party reacts with a complaint and lawsuit: against Minister Gewessler for abuse of office and a lawsuit has also been announced at the ECJ against the decision of the law. Susanne Däubel spoke to several legal experts about the chances of success of this approach.

Political consultant Thomas Hofer is in the studio.

Job change

After the election to the European Parliament two weeks ago, it is clear that four members of the National Council will also move into the EU Parliament in Brussels and Strasbourg in the future. The first session of the European Parliament will take place on July 16th. But who will replace the four representatives who are leaving the National Council? Perhaps they will only be in the House for one or two plenary sessions. David Moidl spoke to the outgoing members of the National Council about their new political tasks and looked at who will take over.

Dangerous neighborhood

Since the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, those countries that border Russia have been worried. This is particularly true for the small EU and NATO country Lithuania: It borders both Russia and Belarus – and feels threatened by both states. Lithuania was the first former Soviet republic to declare its independence in 1990 – which Russia has repeatedly called into question. The Lithuanian Parliament therefore adopted strict measures to protect the borders by a large majority. Stefan Gehrer was there.
