LH Mikl-Leitner and LH deputy Pernkopf congratulate ISTA researcher Jiří Friml on the “Austro Nobel Prize”

Awarded the Wittgenstein Prize

St. Pölten (OTS/NLK) An international expert jury recommended that the FWF Science Fund award ISTA researcher Jiří Friml with the Wittgenstein Prize, also known as the “Austro-Nobel Prize”. “The fifth Wittgenstein Prize for the ISTA since its opening shows once again what a leading position the ISTA now occupies nationally and internationally. With the ‘Austro Nobel Prize’ we are taking a further step towards Stockholm, because in Lower Austria, as you can see, we are pursuing the ‘Nobel Prize Mission’ for good reason,” says State Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner happily.

The LH deputy responsible for science and research, Stephan Pernkopf, joins in the congratulations and emphasizes: “Lower Austria should become a magnet for top researchers. With the new Wittgenstein Prize winner Jiří Friml, we already have one in our state. This not only serves as a role model, but is also an award for the ISTA and of course the entire science location of Lower Austria.”

The Wittgenstein Prize, which this year is endowed with 1.7 million euros, is intended to guarantee excellent researchers the highest degree of freedom and flexibility in carrying out their research work in order to enable an extraordinary increase in their scientific achievements.
