“Guest or Worker – 60 Years of the Türkiye Recruitment Agreement”: Discussion and concert at ORF Vorarlberg

On June 26th at 7:30 p.m. in the ORF-Landesfunkhaus Vorarlberg

Vienna (OTS) In 1964, Austria and Turkey concluded the so-called recruitment agreement. Because of this, thousands of Turkish workers came to Austria. Many of them stayed and their children and grandchildren are Austrian citizens.

What roots and acceptance do people whose ancestors once came from Turkey experience? Teacher Serpil Polat, composer and educator Murat Üstün, Bludenz City Councilor for Culture Cenk Dogan and pianist Yunus Kaya will talk about this together with presenter Jasmin Ölz from ORF Vorarlberg. The conversations are accompanied by musical performances. Murat Üstün, Cenk Dogan and Yunus Kaya will be playing together for the first time this evening.

Exciting biographies

Teacher and interpreter Serpil Polat came to Vorarlberg when she was eleven. She was the first student of the Turkish poet Kundeyt Şurdum and will also read his poems. Murat Üstün first came to Germany at the age of 19 as a musician and student, and later to Vorarlberg. As a composer, educator and bandmaster of the “Hatler Blasmusik” in Dornbirn, he has dealt a lot with Vorarlberg. Cenk Dogan and Yunus Kaya were both born in Vorarlberg to Turkish parents. Dogan is Bludenz’s city councilor for culture, Kaya is a pianist and professor at the Stella Vorarlberg Private University of Music. The different biographies and perspectives of the panel guests paint a differentiated picture of integration.

Admission to this event at the ORF-Landesfunkhaus Vorarlberg in Dornbirn is free. Please register at karten.vbg@orf.at or 05572/301.
