Support for refugees with prudence, solidarity and humanity

Increase in advice, education and accommodation for those seeking protection by 20 percent from 2021 to 2023

Vienna (OTS) AOn the occasion of World Refugee Day tomorrow, the Integration House appeals to the Austrian Federal Government to strengthen and support the opportunities for refugees to build an independent life here in Austria. Since 2021, the number of refugees, migrants, children and young people who found advice and help in the integration house has increased by 20 percent. In 2023 alone, 5,572 people found accommodation here, took part in educational projects or sought out one of the advisory services. “It is urgently necessary to accompany and look after those seeking protection from day one – for as long as they need support. Above all, we see a massive need for expansion in helping people enter the labor market and find housing independently after basic supplies. There is a lack of affordable housing and knowledge about the possibilities of finding work. Let’s not leave those seeking protection alone to build their independent lives, they urgently need more support!“, appeals Martin Wurzenrainer, managing director of the Integrationshaus.

While 4,490 people were cared for in the integration house in 2021, the number rose to 5,572 last year. The Integration House recorded a significant increase in the number of people seeking help, particularly in the areas of education (from 270 to 369 people) and advice (from 3,831 to 4,647 people). “Building an independent life after fleeing is a particularly big challenge for everyone. Refugees, migrants and, above all, children and young people need a wide range of professional support on this often very long journey – right from the start and for as long as necessary. This is the only way refugees can develop as part of this society,” demands Wurzenrainer.

2023: Education, advice, support and accommodation for 5,572 people

Since 2021, the number of people providing care rose continuously until the end of 2023: last year, 296 people lived in the dormitory, in one of the mobile assisted apartments or in the social-educational children’s and youth residential communities. Over 300 people attended the educational projects, from basic education courses to labor market integration projects. Last year, a total of 4,647 people found advice and help in the move on youth coaching training consultancy, the psychosocial advice center and the independent legal advice service. An indispensable part of the work in the Integrationshaus is carried out by 260 volunteers who are guided by the professional team.

Project Integration House Association

The Integrationshaus is a recognized competence center for the reception and integration of refugees, migrants, children and young people. Those seeking protection and advice will find accommodation, support, education and advice here. Particular consideration is given to people with increased care needs, such as traumatized people, single parents, the physically and mentally ill and unaccompanied minor refugees. The Integration House helps them to find future prospects and is a practical example of refugee protection, multilingualism, diversity and equal opportunities. Every day, 170 employees and volunteers show how the reception and integration of refugees and the support of migrants as well as children and young people work in the best possible way.
