Vienna (OTS) – Just in time for the start of summer, the Summer Night Gala opens the musical open-air season in Grafenegg and at the same time the most extensive ORF program focus of the year, the ORF Cultural Summer. ORF 2 will broadcast the glittering event on Friday, June 21, 2024, live with a time delay at 9:20 p.m. on ORF 2 and on ORF ON. A recording of the concert will be on Sunday, June 23rd at 8:00 p.m. on Radio Niederösterreich and on Saturday, June 29th at 8:15 p.m. on 3sat. With the Swiss soprano Regula Mühlemann, an acquaintance returns to the open-air stage of the Wolkenturm after great successes at the Salzburg Festival and at the Vienna State Opera, the Samoan tenor Pene Pati, on the other hand, is celebrating his debut and, for the first time, the Lithuanian accordion player Martynas Levickis will also be able to play the classical sound Expand Grafenegg. This time, the young Polish conductor Marta Gardolińska is at the helm of the Tonkunstler Orchestra of Lower Austria. ORF cultural presenter Teresa Vogl accompanies the evening. The program of the Summer Night Gala promises to be a varied and exciting mix of opera arias, overtures and orchestral works: from Charles Gounod and Giuseppe Verdi to Georges Bizet and Maurice Ravel to the “father of Czech music” Bedřich Smetana, whose birthday is 200 this year. anniversary, as well as the Polish composer Grażyna Bacewicz. There are also traditional dishes from New Zealand and Lithuania. The crowning conclusion of the concert is traditionally “very British”: Edward Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance”.

The next concert highlight from Grafenegg is “The Festival Opening 2024” on Friday, August 16th, live with a time delay at 8:15 p.m. on ORF III, with artistic director and star pianist Rudolf Buchbinder conducting the concert together with the Tonkunstler Orchestra of Lower Austria its chief conductor Yutaka Sado will perform works by two exceptional composers. The program includes the symphonic poem “Pelleas and Melisande” by Arnold Schönberg on the occasion of his 150th birthday and the concert for piano and orchestra in F major by his American contemporary George Gershwin.
To get you in the mood for the concert broadcast, ORF III will show the 2019 production “A Day in the Life of Rudolf Buchbinder” (6:40 p.m.) as well as a “Culture Today Special” (7:40 p.m.).
The Tonkunstler Orchestra Lower Austria can be seen once again from Grafenegg in the ORF cultural summer on Sunday, September 1st, at 8:15 p.m. on ORF III, this time under the musical direction of the Frenchman Fabien Gabel – their designated chief conductor from the 2025 season. 26.
