30 years of the WKÖ Export Prize: Award for top performance by Austrian companies on international markets

19 companies awarded in 7 categories – Exports have increased more than fivefold in the past 30 years – Born Global Champions awarded for the 10th time

Vienna (OTS) Austria’s export economy has recorded sensational successes over the past 30 years. The decisive decision was to join the EU, which Austria’s population voted for in 1994. Since then, exports of goods have increased more than fivefold. Despite very challenging conditions, the more than 63,700 domestic export companies reached the record level of 200 billion euros in goods exports for the first time last year. Services also reached an all-time high of EUR 83 billion.

A companion to this success story is the Export Prize, with which the WKÖ shines the spotlight on and honors the outstanding achievements of companies – from startups and young companies to SMEs and large companies. With their success on international markets, these companies make a significant contribution to growth, jobs and prosperity in Austria.

For the 30th time, AUSSENWIRTSCHAFT AUSTRIA awarded the Austrian Economic Chamber the export prize on June 17, 2024 as part of the “Exporters’ Nite”, which represents the breadth and diversity of the Austrian economy. With more than 700 guests, the Vienna Hofburg provided a worthy setting for the anniversary gala.

The prestigious award was presented – in the presence of Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen – by Labor and Economics Minister Martin Kocher and Austrian Chamber of Commerce President Harald Mahrer. The more than 470 companies that have won the export award over the past 30 years were also honored.

“It is our job to make it clear that Austria’s economy needs unhindered access to the European and global economic area. We are an export country! The voice of business must be heard. You have me as an ally,” said Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen in his speech. “I congratulate this year’s winners and thank the WKÖ for the years of good partnership and cooperation.”

“It is a special situation to go across borders with a product or service into a new market. This requires courage, passion, innovative strength and a high level of quality – especially in the current tough price competition. Sometimes support is needed and here companies can rely on the team at AUSSENWIRTSCHAFT AUSTRIA,” explained WKÖ President Harald Mahrer, who further emphasized: “Behind the successes of the export industry there is hard work that is not always valued in public discourse. Export performance makes a lot of domestic value creation possible. Our thanks go to the export companies who are doing great things around the world.”

“Austria is an export country. The quality and uniqueness of the products and services of Austrian companies are recognized and valued worldwide. Export-oriented companies are of central importance for our prosperity and secure local jobs. I am therefore pleased to honor Austria’s leading exporters for their exceptional international commitment. Congratulations to all winners of the 2024 Export Prize,” said Minister of Economics and Labor Martin Kocher.

The prize was awarded in six main categories and one special category: Trade & Crafts, Trade, Industry, Information & Consulting, Tourism & Leisure, Transport & Traffic. There was also a special prize with the Global Player Award. The winners were selected by an independent jury of experts based on their export performance in recent years.
