Until the main season starts, we try to specifically support events that promote overnight stays in the region“, emphasizes Barbara Plattner, Managing Director of Innsbruck Tourism, the importance of events. An example of this is the adidas TERREX Innsbruck Alpine Trailrun Festival (IATF), which took place from May 2nd to 4th and attracted athletes from over 65 nations. The 5,000 runners not only set a participant record, but also made a significant contribution to revitalizing the regional overnight accommodation sector and increasing regional added value. The La Locura tango festival and the Innsbruck journalism festival, both of which took place on the same weekend as the IATF, are also among those events that last several days and provide overnight accommodation in the preseason. In addition to a wide range of offerings, the Innsbruck Journalism Festival in particular offered a platform for international experts, partners and sponsors to exchange ideas and network in an inspiring environment.

The Innsbruck International Biennial of the Arts, which presents contemporary art from all over the world, was a cultural highlight in spring 2024. With an event period of over three weeks (May 3rd to 26th) and a variety of events in several locations, it achieves one important contribution to promoting the art scene in the region. The Sport Austria Finals 2024, which took place for the first time in Innsbruck from May 29th to June 2nd, also took place at several event locations: from Bergisel to the Innsbruck climbing center and the Olympiaworld to the Landestheater forecourt, the Austrian (state) champions were won in 42 sports: determined internally. There’s a lot going on in Innsbruck: a look forward to an exciting summer of events with alpine-urban diversity

The Innsbruck region is also expecting a number of top-class, international events in the summer of 2024. “Not only multi-day events, but also international events are highly relevant for tourism. In addition to the overnight stays and the added value that are generated as a result, it is above all the media presence on TV, newspapers, etc. that brings additional awareness to the region and strengthens the image and the local communities. By specifically sponsoring those events that fit the brand core, Innsbruck Tourism can target the respective communities and high-quality guests,” says Plattner. One of these international events with brand fit is Crankworx Innsbruck. The eighth edition of the world’s largest gravity mountain bike festival will take place from June 12th to 16th at the Bikepark Innsbruck in Mutters. Fans can look forward to exciting competitions and a unique supporting program. The IFSC Climbing World Cup will then continue from June 24th to 30th. Over 500 athletes are expected at the Innsbruck climbing center to compete in the World Cup disciplines of Lead, Boulder and Paraclimbing as well as the European Cup discipline of Speed and can determine their location one last time before the Olympics in Paris. A special cycling highlight follows on July 7th with the finale of the Tour of Austria: After the start of the last stage in Kufstein, the athletes head to the Innsbruck region. The mountain classification on Patscherkofel, the passage through Innsbruck and the 20 kilometer long journey through the Sellraintal and its mountaineering villages up to the finish in Kühtai await. ORF, ServusTV ON and Eurosport will broadcast the event in German-speaking countries.

From July it will be musical and artistic: from July 5th to 28th, music lovers can enjoy the Innsbruck promenade concerts, which combine mild summer evenings with classical music in the inner courtyard of the Imperial Hofburg. The Innsbruck Early Music Festival from July 21st to August 30th offers an impressive variety of concerts and operas with a focus on the Baroque and Renaissance. And from July 6th to August 17th, the Tyrolean Folk Theater in Telfs will be focusing on traditional and modern folk theater productions and will be presenting, among other things, the “7 Deadly Sins” in a new interpretation, the dramatization of Carl Techet’s “Far from Europe” and this year’s main piece “The Broken Pitcher” by Heinrich von Kleist.

With these varied events, the Innsbruck region offers the right highlight for every taste in summer 2024 and for both guests and locals“, sums up Plattner. “And the most important thing about it: many events and leisure activities can be reached in a climate-friendly and comfortable way using public transport.”
