Filming of Gerald Liegel’s “Messer” with Simon Schwarz, Martina Ebm and Simon Morzé in other roles
Vienna (OTS) – Harald Krassnitzer and Adele Neuhauser find out when they are called to the latest Austrian “crime scene” that things can sometimes be very different behind the scenes than what customers are led to believe. The motto in the award-winning restaurant “Efeukron” is more appearance than reality, because while an ideal world is served alongside delicacies in the dining room, the “knives” (AT) are sharpened in the kitchen. And this not only affects the ingredients, but also the owner and chef of the restaurant. Getting an overview of who has something against someone or with someone is not that easy for the successful Austrian duo – the relationships are complex, the situation is confusing and the working environment is toxic. One thing is clear: there are many motives for murder, from jealousy among colleagues to drugs and sexual harassment to an affair by the victim’s wife.
Until the beginning of July 2024, Harald Krassnitzer (in his 60th case) and Adele Neuhauser (in her 36th case), among others, Christina Scherrer, Simon Schwarz ( “Beasts”, Eberhofer crime novels), Daniel Keberle (“Hochwald”, “Blindly Investigated – Death on the Danube”), Martina Ebm (“Suburban Women”, “All Dark”), Simon Morzé (“The Fox”), Manuel Sefciuc, Lisa Schützenberger (“Soko Linz”), Zoé Sedlak, Alexander Srtschin, Tamim Fattal (“Biester”) and Josef Mohamed in front of the camera. After the case of “Alles was gut ist”, Gerald Liegel, who has also been responsible for productions such as “Schnell sucht” and “Soko Kitzbühel” in the past, will be in the director’s chair for the second time. The script for this crime thriller, like the Austrian “Tatort” case “Azra”, was written by Sarah Wassermair.

André Brauer (Daniel Keberle) is dead. The murder victim was the owner and head chef of the award-winning restaurant “Efeukron”, but now someone seems to have tried out the chef’s knives on him. According to his wife and manager Alicia (Martina Ebm), he had spent the previous evening with members of his kitchen team, so for the investigators it’s time to go to the restaurant! Fists – and pots – are flying there anyway. The professional jealousies between the assistant chefs Bernd (Aleksander Srtschin) and Mohammed (Tamim Fattal) have boiled over, and now they are fighting over incorrectly cut onions. The sous-chef Lars (Simon Morzé) intervenes strictly; he won’t tolerate such chaos in his kitchen. Lars is the one who is most affected by the news of the chef’s death. André was his great mentor, a substitute father. Lars’ brother Ratte (Manuel Sefciuc), on the other hand, quickly becomes the investigators’ first suspect because his drug past suggests that he committed murder out of greed. But the suspicion is quickly dashed. The investigators are increasingly drawn into the extremely toxic working world of the kitchen, where almost everyone seems to have a motive. Be it the dishwasher Bekim (Josef Mohamed), who was fired under the most questionable circumstances, or the pastry chef Lisa (Lisa Schützenberger), who was sexually harassed by Brauer. The investigators supposedly have a big breakthrough when they discover the affair between sous-chef Lars and André’s wife Alicia. But even there, not everything is as it seems.

The Austro “crime scene” year 2024
The Austria case “Deine Mutter” (AT “Hurenkind”) has already been filmed and is expected to be on air in 2024. Also in the can and expected to be shown on ORF 2 in 2025 is the “Tatort – We can’t be caught!” In addition to “Messer” (AT), Harald Krassnitzer and Adele Neuhauser have another Austro crime film on their filming schedule, which will also be broadcast next year.
