Front office delivery: Over 2,000 registrations after 24 hours

We are completely overwhelmed! More than 2,000 registrations after just under 24 hours show the importance of this Europe-wide innovation. Austrians want to receive their online orders directly into their own four walls and we at Austrian Post will deliver them.

Vienna (OTS) Yesterday, Tuesday, Austrian Post and Nuki announced the start of front-room delivery. This is a European premiere: With this smart and innovative reception option, Austrians can have parcels delivered directly to their own four walls for the first time. The interest is enormous: after just under 24 hours, more than 2,000 people have already registered for the new front office delivery from Austrian Post.

We are completely overwhelmed! More than 2,000 registrations after just under 24 hours show the importance of this Europe-wide innovation. Austrians want to receive their online orders directly into their own four walls and we at Austrian Post will deliver them.“, explains Peter Umundum, Board Director for Parcel & Logistics, Österreichische Post AG.

First users from July, more users will follow continuously

At the start, Swiss Post will, in the first step, activate 200 users from all registrations received. The requirements are a minimum age of 18 years, a delivery address in Austria and the compatibility of the door lock with the Nuki Smart Lock – in Austria around 90 percent are suitable.

After the launch of these 200 users, the post office will continuously activate additional users for front-room delivery over the next few months. If users do not yet have a Nuki Smart Lock, they will have to pay a one-time fee of 289 euros for the hardware. The front office delivery option is a postal service and is free of charge.

This is how front-room delivery works

For front room delivery, the house or apartment door is equipped with a smart lock from Nuki. Households that already have a Nuki Smart Lock can continue to use it directly; Swiss Post provides all other 200 users with a Smart Lock free of charge.

Users now authorize Austrian Post as a delivery partner to open their house or apartment door via the Nuki app. The door is then opened by the delivery person using their mobile device and a doormat in the anteroom marks the place where the package should be left. The delivery people then leave the house or apartment and lock the door.

This project was funded by the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK) and was carried out by Rail Infrastructure Service Company mbH (SCHIG mbH) as part of the logistics funding program.
