“Kate Superstar – The fight for the royal image” (9:05 p.m., ORF 1)

With William and Kate’s dream wedding, the British royals are breaking tradition: Catherine Middleton is the first commoner to marry a future British king. Since then she has fulfilled her role perfectly. As Princess of Wales, she confidently uses her public appearances for her social commitment. She sets fashionable accents in a stylish manner and thus creates the “Kate effect”. She provides insights into her family life via social media. Supported by a PR team, she shaped the Kate brand. In March 2024 she announced that she had cancer. Newspapers recently reported that the royal break could be longer than expected and Princess Kate has an empty schedule for the rest of the year.

“Drama Royal – The talk afterwards” (10:05 p.m., ORF 1)

Following the documentary “Kate Superstar – The Battle for the Royal Image”, Lisa Gadenstätter’s insiders from the palace, die-hard aristocratic experts, correspondents and critical commentators discuss the pressing questions about the state and future of the British royal family. Also: What about the Royals’ PR? What should, may or must be made public, what is deeply personal and private? Does the public have a right to the full story? What narrative is conveyed, what role models are communicated and what does it really look like behind the scenes? What role do paparazzi, the sensationalist tabloid press, social media and the royal family’s public relations strategies play here? Guests in the studio include aristocracy and society expert Marion Nachtwey and British political scientist Melanie Sully.
