State Secretary Mayer on the death of Werner Hink

Vienna (OTS) “As concertmaster, Werner Hink shaped the string sound of the Vienna Philharmonic for more than 30 years. In this role he was an important link to the many well-known conductors of his era. He revealed his outstanding artistry in numerous brilliant solo interventions as well as in his careful ensemble playing. As a chamber musician, he impressed with his richly differentiated and expressive playing. He passed on his passion and skills to subsequent generations as a violin class teacher at the Vienna Conservatory. Everyone who was lucky enough to experience him and his art will remember him with gratitude and his chamber music legacy will live on in his sound documents,” said State Secretary for Art and Culture Andrea Mayer.

Werner Hink was awarded, among other things, the Cross of Honor for Science and Art and the Great Decoration of Honor for services to the Republic of Austria.
