Occupation of the entrance to the Ministry of Agriculture stops: is Totschnig ready to talk?

Passers-by and ministry employees stand in solidarity – the police have suspended the threatened eviction

Minister Totschnig was contacted and refused to speak. That is not worthy of a minister. He has to take responsibility now. Not only can the pigs no longer be kept around, farmers also have a right to legal certainty. The situation is unbearable for all sides!

Vienna (OTS) Totschnig has so far refused to comment on the demands of Animal Welfare Minister Rauch, the VGT and 92% of people who are calling for a ban on fully slatted floors and straw for pigs (1). He refuses to talk to the VGT. That’s why 20 animal rights activists are waiting in the entrance to the Ministry of Agriculture. They want at least a telephone conversation with the minister. But he doesn’t want to so far. At first the police threatened to evacuate, gathered dozens of officers and even the rescue team was on site.

But then the eviction was suspended, probably for political reasons. Almost all passers-by and ministry employees loudly expressed their solidarity with animal protection. The vast majority of the country is on the side of the pigs.

VGT chairman DDr. Martin Balluch is part of the cast: “Minister Totschnig was contacted and refused to speak. That is not worthy of a minister. He has to take responsibility now. Not only can the pigs no longer be kept around, farmers also have a right to legal certainty. The situation is unbearable for all sides!
