A banana glued to the wall became a millions of art. Now a simple Salzstangerl is causing a sensation: AMA marketing has glued it to a poster wall at the Vienna Film Museum-and thus asks a question that has an effect: What is a food really worth?
The action is triggered by the artwork “Comedian” by the Italian concept artist Maurizio Cattelan, which recently made headlines again when a museum visitor in France quickly eaten it.
“If a banana is worth $ 6 million-how much is a Salzstangerl that was made with real craft, time and care?” Asks Christina Mutenthaler-Sipek, Managing Director of AMA marketing. “We want to make it visible that value is more than a price tag.”
With this unusual action, AMA marketing wants to draw attention to the often underestimated value of regional food and create awareness: for quality, craft and regional origin. Food is more than consumer goods – they are part of our cultural identity.
AMA staging sees itself as a cultural intervention in public space-with a wink but clear message. Where Cattelan works with irony, AMA marketing shows down-to-earthness and authenticity: regional food is not just food, they are part of our culture.
