6 million euros for Ukraine aid: NEIGHBOR IN NEED thanks the federal government – help is still urgently needed

Vienna (OTS) The humanitarian situation in Ukraine has been catastrophic for more than two years: 14.6 million people – around 40% of the population – are currently dependent on aid, including at least 3.2 million children. As announced by the federal government, NEXT IN NOTHING will receive additional funds for use in Ukraine and neighboring countries 6 million euros from the foreign disaster fund and can thus continue the urgently needed humanitarian aid.

NEACHBAR IN NOT and the ORF launched a call for donations and an aid operation immediately on February 24th, 2022, which in this form is comparable to none before. With a total of 69 aid projects Caritas, Red Cross, Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund, CARE, Diakonie, Hilfewerk International, Malteser and Volkshilfe have so far been able to do more than 2.3 million people in Ukraine and neighboring countries.

This is made possible by the generous donations of people in Austria and the Support from the Austrian Federal Government, which supported NEIGHBOR IN NOTHING in 2022 with 41.96 million euros via the foreign disaster fund. All projects financed through the Austrian Development Agency have now been completed.

Andreas Knapp, Secretary General International Programs Caritas Austria and Chairman of the Board of NACHBAR IN NOT, is pleased about the renewed support: The contribution that NACHBAR IN NOT received from the federal government two years ago was essential for our relief efforts. We were able to repair shelters, provide medical assistance, ensure electricity supply in winter and enable children to take part in school and leisure activities. Unfortunately, after more than two years of war, there is still no peace in sight and the situation for the people is getting worse. The renewed support is an important contribution with which we can continue our help. Together we bring the people of Ukraine essentials and hope.

Even if the conflict in Ukraine increasingly disappears from the headlines, it is still happening and is putting a strain on people physically and psychologically. My colleagues see in their work every day: our help is vital for people and is still urgently needed. We are pleased that the Federal Government is making an important humanitarian contribution to our work in Ukraine and neighboring countries with an additional 6 million euros.“, so Michael Opriesnig, Secretary General of the Austrian Red Cross and board member of NEIGHBOR IN NOTHING.

ORF General Director Mag. Roland Weißmann: „I am impressed by what the NACHBAR IN NEED aid organizations have done for the population in Ukraine over more than two years. It is particularly important that their help continues, as it is vital for the people of Ukraine, including families and children. The ORF will of course continue to support NACHBAR IN NOT in all media and state studios. My thanks go to all donors who show solidarity with the people in Ukraine, as well as to the Austrian Federal Government for their support.“

Pius Strobl, head of the Corporate Social Responsibility department and therefore ORF head NEIGHBOR IN NOTHING:The help from NEIGHBOR IN NEED reaches the people of Ukraine and must continue. It is shocking the suffering that Ukrainians have had to endure for more than two years; day after day it is a matter of survival for them. The help is necessary and will take a very long time; the renewed support from the Austrian Federal Government is making an important contribution to this.
