A leisure tip for young and old: The “Rauchfangkehrer Museum” (4th, Klagbaumgasse 4) is traditionally open on New Year’s Eve afternoon. The chimney sweeps invite you to visit the extensive permanent exhibition about the long history of the chimney sweep profession on Tuesday, December 31st, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The special exhibition “Sound & Smoke” with over 60 antiquated radio sets from the period between 1919 and 1974 will also be shown.
Museum director Anna-Theres Stern and her volunteers wear the official uniform of the “Black Guild” and are available for souvenir photos. Nice gifts for old and young: every adult gets a free lucky charm and children are given sweet “chocolate chimney sweeps”. As always, entry to this entertaining event is free for the whole family. The chimney sweeps wish “Happy New Year”. Information: Telephone 734 35 40 and email rauchfang@bezirksmuseum.at.
In the permanent exhibition about the history of the chimney sweep trade, past and present work utensils (from brushes to measuring devices), work clothing, photographs, paintings, documents, records, greeting cards, flags, the guild chest and other exhibits can be seen. The radios in the “Schall & Rauch” show belong to the collector Robert Köck, who is happy to sell one or two copies upon request. Director Anna-Theres Stern answers questions from visitors and provides information about chimney sweep training. This teaching is also suitable for girls. Those interested can read information about regular museum operations (opening hours, exhibits, permanent exhibition, temporary show “Schall & Rauch” until June 2025, etc.) on the Internet: https://www.bezirksmuseum.at/de/rauchfangkehrer/
