State Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner and LH Deputy Stephan Pernkopf inform that the state of Lower Austria has now paid out 300 million euros for flood relief. This means that almost 17,000 affected people have been supported who have reported damage to their belongings due to the floods since September.
“Lower Austria is a country in which togetherness is lived. In normal times and especially in times of crisis. This was particularly evident this year in September, when the entire country stood together during the flood and we overcame the disaster together. Thank you to all the volunteers and the entire blue and yellow security family for their efforts. Today, just before Christmas, we can announce that thanks to the excellent work of the damage commissions and the downstream bodies, 300 million euros have already been paid out to the victims of the flood disaster. “We can’t solve all the suffering, but we can at least make a significant financial contribution,” said State Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner.
LH deputy Stephan Pernkopf, who was also the state operations manager, added: “Three months ago, an unprecedented flood disaster hit our country. Today we can see that the aid payments are arriving; around 17,000 families have already been helped! And secondly: We are expanding flood protection even faster, 70 projects are being brought forward.”
“95,000 emergency services, including 60,000 from the fire department alone, were deployed, which was carried out extremely professionally. Lower Austria has shown that solidarity is stronger than any natural disaster. It is now important that help arrives quickly and that protection is expanded quickly. A third of the investments go into projects that give the rivers more space,” says Pernkopf.
