How do young people from the 2nd district imagine a healthy everyday life? That was clear last week at the youth health promotion of the Vienna Health Promotion – WIG in Leopoldstadt, in which around 230 young Leopoldstadt residents presented their ideas about this with different articles in front of an audience. “It is fun to see the zeal with which young people deal with the topic of health. At the youth health conference in Leopoldstadt, great contributions were made again that show us what young people need for their well -being,” said Dennis Beck, Managing Director of Viennese health promotion – WIG. The Leopoldstadt district leader Alexander Nikolai was also pleased with the great commitment from the district: “Whether on stage or with a market stand, the young people have made the youth health conference colorful and alive with their self -elected projects. This is an example of how successful youth participation can look.”
Workshops, station operation, exchange and dispute settlement-a wide range of offer at the youth health conference
Married and helped shape – that was the motto of the young participants of schools and extra -curricular institutions in the 2nd district at the youth health conference. Accompanied by committed educators and youth workers, they have worked out their creative ideas in the past few months, which they presented in the Catamaran event center last week. With impressive vocal and dance performances there was a brilliant start at the youth health conference. In addition to market stalls on movement, nutrition and mental health, the participants also dealt with a wide range of topics, such as with conscious shopping, almost fashion, diversity, media consumption or education. Some hands-on stations devoted themselves to mental health, in which young people defined their feel-good locations in the district, created their own stickers and buttons with positive messages or have assigned the appropriate feelings. Above all, a good cooperation was the focus of the participants, so young people were specially trained as “mediators” who support other classmates in solving conflicts. There were no limits to creativity: in addition to dance- there were also theater workshops that could be visited by young people. The youth health conference clearly showed that dealing with their own health is fun for young people.
