In front of Aqua Nova, the adventure pool in Wr. Neustadt, 111 parking spaces on an area of 1,400 square meters will be covered with photovoltaic systems. As part of the Lower Austrian funding program for roofing parking spaces with PV systems, over 2,500 parking spaces across the country are already being covered with photovoltaics. “These parking spaces have a sensible dual use. With these projects we save valuable soil, provide shade in the summer heat, protect against precipitation in winter and at the same time expand renewable energy,” emphasizes LH deputy Stephan Pernkopf.
The PV systems at the Aqua Nova parking lot will generate 325,000 kWh of electricity annually, which will also be used directly on site. “With this project we are improving our city’s infrastructure and using parking spaces in an intelligent way to generate energy. This not only contributes to the electricity supply, but is also an important contribution to climate protection,” explains Mayor Klaus Schneeberger.
In addition to the project in Wr. Neustadt, PV roofing for parking spaces is also being implemented in Waidhofen/Thaya, Hollabrunn, Klosterneuburg and other communities. A total of around eight million euros is available for this purpose, and the current, fourth funding call runs until the end of November.
