In order to collect even more packaging, RecycleMich is releasing new app functions.
Vienna (OTS) – Half of all packaging in Austria still ends up in the wrong bin or in the wild. To counteract this significant waste of recyclables, the free RecycleMich app rewards proper disposal with attractive prices and uses gamification to encourage behavior change. Pick up people under 30
From 2025, at least 50 percent of plastic packaging waste must be recycled to meet EU requirements. Currently, only one in four packaging is recycled in a high-quality manner. “The basic requirement for effective recycling of used packaging is its correct disposal,” says Ines Kilnhofer, product manager at RecycleMe for the RecycleMich app. “And although a sustainable lifestyle is very important to many young people, according to a VOEB study, it is precisely these young people under the age of 30 who need to be given special advice on the topic of waste separation.”
The right bin is crucial
In order to close this gap and inspire more young people to dispose of waste correctly, RecycleMich has published an optimized app version that gives users even better and easy-to-understand instructions on how to separate waste on site. After scanning the packaging, the app recognizes where you are and therefore knows in which bin the respective packaging should be disposed of correctly. “Throwing it into the right bin is crucial”
, explains Kilnhofer. “Because only if we dispose of the packaging in the right bin can it be recycled. With our recycling tips and lots of additional information, we do important educational work for consumers directly in the app.”
Attractive new winning opportunities
The RecycleMich app rewards Austrians for correctly separating waste. Anyone who disposes of and scans their packaging correctly now has the chance to win even more prizes. With the new app release, Sky Also new in the monthly raffle: Sustainable Sodapop LOGAN water soda maker including 3 glass bottles and CO₂ cylinders worth 119.90 euros each.
Extensive product database and Advent campaign
Also new: The RecycleMich app now recognizes all packaging that belongs in the yellow bin or yellow bag. “Since launching the app, we have already collected over 1.5 million packages,” says Kilnhofer happily. But that’s not enough: “We want to bring every packaging back into the cycle. With our new release, users can now recycle even more packaging profitably, actively register packaging and thus secure a chance to win our prizes.” And even those who have not yet collected their used packaging with RecycleMich can benefit from the educational work of the Teams benefit. During Advent, useful tips and facts about recycling and environmental protection are published daily via the app’s social media channels and prizes are raffled off.
